This album is a tribute/“Thank you” to all jazz bassists who have invented and developed jazz bass playing, who also have put the bass upfront. Since there are so many, I’ve included the music of only a few who have inspired me the most as bassists, composers and leaders. They all have their own unique sound, technique and language.
My honor and invaluable accent to this tribute is to have as most special guest Maestro Ron Carter. I am thankful for his mentorship, guidance, wisdom and support. His genius has inspired and continues to inspire me as well as countless other artists around the world. A gentleman with a welcoming heart, he lifts up the spirits and the class of those who surround him. Thank you, Maestro!
One of it’s kind, this album contains music composed only by bassists. Purposefully, the bass presents all melodies except on “Joyce Faye”. The choice of a trio is a decision to have the bass as more of an equal and present voice as an accompanying, melody presenting and soloing function.
The unique bass duet with Maestro Ron Carter and I presents "Little Waltz” (by Ron Carter) which I arranged so that the two bass voices can intertwine and share the functions of soloing and accompanying in the concept of a dialog.
The order of the tracks is only with the purpose of musical fluency’s sake and not a chronological nor importance order. Enjoy listening!
